Mehr erfahren
“Notes on the Way of St. James” is his account of that journey which began in the early Spring of 2011. The book chronicles the various stages of the adventure from its uncertain beginning through a doubt plagued stretch in Switzerland where Stephan wondered where he would ever find the fortitude to finish the pilgrimage. This doubt never fully left him until his arrival at the Spanish city of Santa Domingo de la Calzada.
A rejuvenated Stephan ended his journey in late June 2011 at Santiago de Compostela, “the end of the world”, where he finally appreciated the full meaning of the words that a millennia of pilgrims before him had also realized: “The way gives you what you need”.
Now fully recovered, Stephan is planning his next adventure, a hike from his home in Bavaria to Rome along the Via Francigena.

The Author was born in the Bavarian city of Kaufbeuren Germany in 1957.
He enjoyed a normal childhood as the youngest of 5 children living at home until he landed his first job as an assembler at a milling factory. This took him to Pfronten, a town near the Austrian border, where he met his future wife Uschi.
In 1979 Stephan enlisted in the German air force and worked for the next 25 years as an avionics specialist at Memmingen Airbase attached to the NATO Bomber Wing 34 “Allgaeu”.
After his retirement in 2006 Stephan set a life goal for himself, to walk from his home in Bavaria to Santiago de Compostela. Following a route travelled by countless pilgrims since medieval times and known as “The Way of St. James”, the journey took him 90 days and covered a distance of over 2500 kms.
